What Is Batt Insulation?

Batt insulation in attics is installed horizontally on the attic floor. Over time — especially in South Florida's heat and humidity — batts compress and sag. A batt that started at R-19 may be performing at R-11 or less after 10–15 years.
Blown-in insulation doesn't compress the same way. It settles slightly in the first year, but the depth is accounted for in the installation. Properly installed blown-in insulation maintains its R-value for decades.
3. Easier to Achieve High R-Values
Florida Building Code requires R-38 minimum for attic insulation. Most energy experts recommend R-49 to R-60 for Boca Raton's climate. Achieving R-60 with batts requires stacking multiple layers in different directions — awkward, time-consuming, and expensive.

Batt insulation can't be layered as effectively — you'd need to run new batts perpendicular to the existing ones, which is labor-intensive and still leaves gaps.
5. Handles Humidity Better (With the Right Material)
Boca Raton's coastal humidity is hard on insulation. Fiberglass blown-in is inherently moisture-resistant — it won't absorb water, won't grow mold, and won't lose R-value when humidity is high.
